A Gale (very basic, very friendly and very good)

Restaurant Poco Partido – on road to supermarket – superb Portuguese food

Ele & Ela (more upmarket but superb food)

Casa Algarvia (a very basic and good Portuguese Restaurant)

Marisqueira – a small but very good restaurant (47 on the guide) – it is on the block on the RHS as you walk into town following the road – just up from the hotel

Vimar – on RHS at top of road into town – very good and basic

Restaurant Stop – or similar  (by the beach at Centianes) – good for lunch and lovely to sit overlooking beach.

Ponto do Encontro – is a few minutes walk from the villa and it is in the reception area and is well signposted. It is very good and reasonably priced and if you tell them you live on the complex they will give you either a discount or some free wine!

Estrela do Mar – is also close to the villa and is on the road that turns off the main drag. Supposedly very good but we have not been yet!

There are some very good restaurants in Alvor to the west of Carvoeiro – do not take the signs for town centre but take the signs for the beach (praia) and this leads you to a big car park which is just a few minutes walk from the harbour where all the good restaurants are.

Restaurant at Praia do Caneiros (to west of Carvoeiro) – very good beach and lovely food in the restaurant overlooking the beach.

Restaurant at Praia do Salgados – wonderful long open beach with very good restaurant. To west of restaurant is a bird sanctuary with a hide – superb bird spotting.

Smilers Bar – in middle of town and very good Guinness

Bar Havanna – just up from A Gale – they do very good cocktails which are 2 for 1 before 8pm

Mechelano (or something similar) -  literally next door to A Gale – basic and if you let the guys in A Gale know you are there they will call you when table is ready!

Jailhouse – run by the guy from Smokey (remember the original Alice?) and is good sixties/seventies music – he starts singing around 10.30. Very good and basic enjoyment.

Careys Irish Bar – on RHS as you are walking into town along main road – has a very good Irish Band on Tues and Thursdays.

Hemmingway's – run by a bloke from Glasgow – on LHS on one way road out of town. There is also a nice wee Portuguese bar beside it. Good for watching footie in or outside.
